Mae Takeda's Obituary
Mae Tokiye Takeda, born May 1, 1938 to Helen and Henry Sato in Los Angeles, CA,
died February 20, 2023, thirty three years to the day of Dad’s passing.
Mom moved to Berkeley in 1950 and became a member of the Berkeley Buddhist
Temple as a teen. She led a very active and productive life but family was her priority.
She could always be found at her kids’ and grandkids’ events, if not chaperoning, then
cheering from the sidelines. Scouts, sports, Jr. YBA, school functions, Mom was always
there.
Mom’s passions were traveling, crocheting afghans, playing Bingo (2-3 times per week!),
and of course, baseball. From Little League games to the Oakland A’s, Mom could
always be found with a scorebook on her lap and a hot dog in hand. She was a devoted
season ticket holder for the Oakland A’s for many years, traveling to Arizona for Spring
Training and even Japan to watch her team!
Survived by children Glenn (Susan), Christopher (Joann), Karen (Moira) and
grandchildren Cameron, Sydney, Laurie, Hannah and Timothy. Predeceased by
husband Shizutoshi and daughter Laurie.
Services will be held at Berkeley Buddhist Temple, 2121 Channing Way, Berkeley, CA,
on April 15, 2023, 2pm. In honor of Mom’s favorite team, please feel free to wear
Oakland A’s attire. She would love it!
