Madeline Beverley Simmons' Obituary
Madeline Simmons, a long-time resident of the Piedmont Pinesdistrict in Oakland, died December 9 at the age of 85. Madeline wasborn September 5, 1919 in Tucson, Arizona, the only daughter ofPaul Meyer, a railroad clerk, and Dora McMillen. The family moved to Berkeley where Madeline attended WillardMiddle School and Berkeley High School. It was at Willard thatMadeline met her future husband, William Simmons. The couplecelebrated their 64th wedding anniversary just one week beforeWilliam’s death in 1999. Madeline and William lived in their Oakland home for 57 years andraised three children there. Patricia Campbell, the oldest, precededher parents in death. Madeline is survived by her sons, William Simmons, Jr. of Oaklandand Lawrence Simmons of San Francisco. She also leaves behindtwo grandsons, Michael Campbell and David Campbell; two greatgrand-daughters, Jamie Maldonado and Nicole Campbell; agreat-great grand-daughter, Jenna Maldonado; a son-in-law,Vern Campbell, and a daughter-in-law, Caroline Simmons. Memorial services for Madeline will be conducted Thursday, December 16 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue inOakland. A viewing will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes onWednesday, December 15, from 7-9 p.m.
