Luther Berry's Obituary
Luther Berry was born on April 21, 1936, in Newton, MS, to the late Roosevelt Berry and Lula Mae Berry. On Monday, March 2, 2026, he accepted the Master’s call at Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs, CO, peacefully closing a chapter of a life well lived and opening the door to eternal rest.
As a young man, Luther relocated with his family from Jackson, MS, to Cairo, IL. It was there that he deepened his faith and found great joy in serving the Lord as a devoted member of Everdale Missionary Baptist Church. His love for God was evident not only in his words, but in the way he lived his life—with humility, kindness, and unwavering faith.
During his years in Cairo, Luther was known as a hardworking and determined man. With a natural curiosity and strong work ethic, he taught himself how to repair televisions and other household items—skills that not only provided for his family but also served friends and neighbors in need. He took pride in being resourceful and dependable, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Before relocating to California, Luther moved to East St. Louis, IL where he worshiped at Hanes Miracle Temple. During this time, he worked for the A. O. Smith Corporation, continuing his reputation as a dedicated and dependable worker.
Later in life, Luther moved to Oakland, CA, where he began a career as a truck driver with the Sealed Air Corporation. He took great pride in his work and developed a deep love for truck driving. Luther enjoyed the open road and the sense of independence it brought him, dedicating many years of faithful service while traveling throughout the Bay Area. His strong work ethic and reliability made him respected by those who worked alongside him.
While living in the Bay Area, Luther’s deep love for his religion inspired him to share his knowledge of the Bible with members of the community. He often took time to teach others and, at any opportunity, would speak about the importance of living a righteous and disciplined life devoted to God.
Luther never met a stranger and truly had a heart of gold. His love for family was unmatched, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He cared deeply for others and often assisted the downtrodden by providing food donations and support to help those facing difficult times. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Berry and Lula Mae Berry; his sisters, Francis Buchanan, Mary York, and Annie Mae Branson; and his brothers, Charlie Brown and Clarence Berry.
Luther leaves to cherish his precious memories: his son, Luru (Anita) Berry of Colorado Springs, CO; his siblings, Willie (Jo Ann) Berry of Chester, VA and Corine Cauley of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Christopher Lowe of Renton, WA, Zachary Berry of Hopkinsville, KY, Keairra Barron of Colorado Springs, CO, and Leia (Jaime) Berry of Denver, CO; and his great-grandchildren, Ciarah Lee, Jordyn Lowe, Khalil Jackson, and Athena Espinoza, all of Colorado Springs, CO, Heaven Coleman of Ooltewah, TN, and Jenesis Ramirez of Hendersonville, NC.
He also leaves to cherish his memory special friends Ms. Carolyn Paul of Alameda, CA, Mr. Bill Bectal of San Leandro, CA, and Mr. Anthony Lopez of San Leandro, CA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Mr. Luther Berry will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his dedication to family, and his commitment to honest work. His legacy of perseverance, service, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
