Lucia Staib Brockhoff
November 15, 1914 – September 26, 2016
Lucia Staib Brockhoff passed away peacefully at home in Piedmont, CA on September 26, 2016, just a few weeks before she would have turned 102.
The daughter of the late Charles F. Staib and Lucia Heinz Staib, she was proud of her heritage as a third generation Californian and native San Franciscan. Her maternal grandfather, the late Lorenz Heinz, arrived from Germany during the Gold Rush and settled in Yolo County in 1853. Her paternal grandmother, Dora Goetze, walked across the Isthmus of Panama en route to California in the mid-1800’s.
Lucia was a graduate of Lowell High School and the University of California, Berkeley and received her teaching credential from San Francisco State College. She later taught elementary school in San Juan Bautista and in Albany, California.
Lucia and her family resided for many years in San Francisco, later lived in San Carlos for more than twenty years, and returned to live in Albany before retiring to her famiy’s Yolo County farm. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, the University of California Alumni Association and the American Association of University Women for many years, and a longtime supporter of the Bancroft Library. She greatly enjoyed travels throughout the United States and Europe.
She was married for 67 years to Charles William Brockhoff, who died in 2006. Following the death of her husband, Lucia resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Tom Lister, at their home in Piedmont, CA for nearly eleven years.
Lucia is survived by her daughter, Ann Brockhoff Lister and her husband, Tomas Lister; her son, Donald Charles Brockhoff and his wife, Maria Kay Brockhoff; grand-daughter Susan Lewis Swift and her husband, Joel; grand-daughter, Cheryl Lea Brockhoff Coker and her husband, Jeremy; her grandson, Donald William Brockhoff and his wife, Christena, and six great-grancildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Conrad L. Staib of Woodland and cousins, Dorothy Staib Pendergast, Elizabeth Pendergast Feeney and Helen Staib of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by cousin, Jean Pendergast O’Connell of Belmont, CA.

A Celebration of the Life of Lucia Brockhoff will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Piedmont Community Church, 400 Highland Avenue in Piedmont, CA followed by a reception. Interment was private in Woodland, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Piedmont Community Church and the American Association of University Women.
