Mr Low Kee Lee's Obituary
Low Kee Lee passed away peacefully in Oakland on August 20, 2014 at the age of 98. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty years, Alice Jing Lee. He is survived by a son, Elliott Low (Margie) and a daughter, Joanne Low (Marty Hikido), and his four beloved grandchildren, Jennifer, Ally, Christen, and Christopher. A native of Oakland, he was the eldest of ten children to Hing Wing Lee and Louie Shee Lee and is survived by his loving siblings, Lillie Quan, Ruth DeBerg, Lonnie Parr, Jeannette Gong, Lillian Tse, Leon Lee, and the late Hong Lee, Rose Lew, and George Lee.
L.K. was a pioneer in the field of early radar design and later worked in the aerospace industry for over 30 years. He was a co-founder of the Chinese-American Institute of Engineers and was active in various Masonic organizations and the Loong Kong Tien Yee Family Association. He was a founding member of the Grace Chinese Alliance Church in Concord and most recently a member of the Piedmont Gardens Advisory Board. An avid reader, L.K. took great joy in learning and valued education. He was a graduate of UC Berkeley, a researcher at Stanford Research Institute, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and a contributor to the Encyclopedia Brittanica. After retiring, L.K. continued to stimulate his mind by learning Mandarin Chinese and becoming a consultant in China, giving lectures under the sponsorship of the China Science and Technology Association. This allowed him to meet many interesting people including Deng Xiao Ping and most of his ministers. His many accomplishments aside, what made him most happy in his final year was the love of family and friends, shown through cards, visits, and his favorite Chinese food dishes. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13, at 10am,Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, with a brief viewing at 9:15am prior to the service. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or World Vision International.
