Louise Knox's Obituary
Louise Salaun Knox lived a happy life and went to heaven to be with her beloved husband, Robert Knox, and dearly departed family and friends on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2015, at the age of 87, just 5 days before her 88th birthday. She was joined by her sister, Marie, who was 93 years old and lived in France, and also passed away on the same day.
Louise cared deeply for people, and people cared deeply for her. Everyone had a special name for her: Her sisters called her Lizette, and then Conchita, a name she picked up traveling with a group of gypsies around the French countryside in her teens, and a name that stuck with her for life, as did “Ta,” which is derived from the French family title “Tante,” meaning “Aunt” in English, as she was lovingly called by her nieces and nephews! She was also called Lu Lu, Lisa, and Liz.
Louise was born in the beautiful marine town on the coast of northwestern France, Morlaix, Brittany, on December 29, 1927, into the family of eleven children. In 1940, her father passed away at the age of 39, leaving behind her mother to care for the family. They were close and always managed to keep a light of hope in their hearts! Eventually some of the children relocated to Paris to work to send money home. It was there that Louise met and married the love of her life, Robert Knox. Robert was in the United States Air Force and he and Louise lived together on several bases around the world. They settled in the Temescal area of Oakland, California. Robert blessed Louise abundantly and she never had to work, but she always paid it forward by spending time helping seniors and lovingly and generously giving to others. No one ever left her home without a gift and she donated to countless charities. She also loved animals and had three loving dogs: Poochie, Bee Bee, Gee Gee; and two cats named Diamond and Diamonds, the first was her late sister Germaine’s cat, and the second was a stray she adopted.
She enjoyed shopping for every gadget on the planet and had a home filled with interesting items for as long as anyone can remember. She spent many afternoons joyfully browsing through the stores and boutiques on her favorite street, Piedmont Avenue, the street where she took her last breath and the street that would be her final resting place alongside her beloved husband.
Louise embodied happiness and love throughout her life and she made friends up until the last day of her life! The angels of family, friends, doctors, nurses, and caregivers were all with her as she went into the light and onto her journey to heaven.
She is survived by her beloved sister Monique and brother-in-law, John, who took very special loving care of her on a daily basis from the day her husband passed in 2002 (and well before); along with all of her loving nieces Carmen, Marie Claire, Louise, Vanessa, Natasha, Laura, Cindy, Aimee, Ana, Cristina, Eva, Maiah, Donna, Quinetta, and more; her nephews Jean Claude, Patrick S., Patrick Sr., Patrick Jr., Ryan, Jeremy, Ludwig, Roy, Ernie, Daniel, Samuel, David, Bradley, and more; her husband Robert’s family, her many friends; and everyone she met who will cherish her beautiful memory.
