Louise Alice Ahern's Obituary
In loving memory of Louise Ahern
Aug. 16, 1922 to May 26, 2016
Louise Ahern passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on May 26 at the age of 93. She was born in Roundup, MT, and moved to California at the age of 8. She lived in Modesto, Sonora and Turlock before becoming a resident of Oakland for the last 70 years. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in English and a teaching credential.
While at Cal she met her future husband, George Ahern, a young naval officer, and married on July 1, 1945 at Corpus Christi Church. She is predeceased by her husband, George Ahern, and her brother, Rae Kregness.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Ann Guy of Turlock, and her 3 children, Carol Andersen of La Canada Flintridge, Thomas Ahern of Diablo Grande and Gail Ahern of Oakland; her son-in-law, Richard Andersen and her daughter-in-law, Beverly Ahern; her grandchildren, Kean, Heather and Scott Ahern; Michael and Kristen Andersen; and her great-granddaughter, Alice Ahern, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She had many-lifelong friends as bridge partners and belonged to the same book group for over 30 years. She was an avid reader, a deep thinker, and the center of our family’s universe, and she will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 3, 11:00 am, at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery and a reception at the Ahern home.
