Lonnie Robinson's Obituary

Lonnie Louis was born in Fordyce, Arkansas in November of 1934 to Louis Robinson and Margaret Jewel Davis (both deceased). He moved to Herlong, California with his parents in the 1940’s. Lonnie excelled as an athlete in many sports and achieved throughout his duration of High School and College the status of an Honor Roll student. Lonnie started work as a warehouse Laborer at the Herlong, California Arm Depot after completing High School in Susanville California.
He had an avid thirst for learning, thus leading his pursuit for education both international and domestic. Due to this thirst for learning, Lonnie found himself studying in Paris at the University of Paris, France, at the London Technical Institute, and the University of Maryland overseas during his Military duty. On the home front Lonnie received an A.A. Degree in Business and Science and a Teaching Credential from the University of California at Berkeley (Offered through the California State board of Education) and also Lonnie received a B.S. (Magna Cum Laude) in organizational development from the university of San Francisco where he made the Dean’s Honor Roll with high passing equivalencies in ten different degree disciplines.
Upon scoring in the A category of the military I.Q. examination his military tour in the United States Air Force included training in Cryptography, Computer Science, French, and the Russian Languages. Finally concluding with the studying of Law at LaSalle University of Chicago. Lonnie attended eight Colleges and Universities in total and was also trained by the Army, Navy and Merchant Marines in several other fields.
With an Honorable Discharge upon returning to the States after his tour of Military Duty, Lonnie settle in the Bay Area, repeatedly distinguishing himself in the Hi-Tech industry of computer data processing for the U.S. S.F. Postal Services, EEO specialist, contract officer representative, and developing widely distributed training programs in the computer fields. He was the first black supervisory computer specialist over the computer division at the San Francisco army procurement agency. In the 1960’s and 1970’s Lonnie worked on the prototype for the government which is known today as the World Wide Web Internet System. He retired after 35 years with the Federal Government as a Personnel Employee Development Specialist, a Counselor, and Computer Specialist from the Naval Supply Center of Oakland, California.
Lonnie has won many awards, especially for his works of Poetry, which have been published in over twenty-five anthologies and newspapers. His Book (self-published), Poetic Vemtures (1990), was accepted by several colleges and cities for inclusion into their libraries. He was also included in the world of poetry’s: Who’s Who in Poetry in 1990. Lonnie, in addition to many other things, was an actor who participated in local plays: received script offers from Hollywood scouts.
Historical Events and Other Acknowledgments
- Lonnie’s name was listed on the presidential libraries of William J. Clinton –(Carved in Granite), and Franklin D. Roosevelt-(Carved in Bronze).
- He was Appointed and Certified by President William J. Clinton in 1993 to work on the Americans for Change presidential task force and was appointed to the Democratic Senate Task Force by congress the same year, he also worked on the Jimmy Carter Administration.
- Lonnie was named a Co-Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize with the doctors without borders group in 1991.
- Lonnie was honored with a display, by the Ebon Museum of Art, the city of Oakland and the state of California during Black History month of 1996.
- He later received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the State in 1996 along with letters of recognition and thanks from Queen Elizabeth of England, Senators: Ted Kennedy, Allan Cranston, Representatives: Ronald V. Dellums, Barbara Lee, and Maxine Waters along with several other congressional members over the years. Also Pope John Paul II and also was named in Who’s Who in America.
- He received a credential of ministry after study of the Holy Scriptures.
- There are many other membership and achievements too numerous to list (i.e. A World Jewish Congress Diplomat, and a Participant in the African Summit Trade Treaty Passage of 2000, the Mayo Clinic, Children’s International, United Negro College Fund, Red Cross, United Nations and the V.F.W.)
- He participated in long constitutional struggles of Discrimination in class Action Suit Cases (i.e. Civil Rights and Women’s Act of 1991) Culminating in Constitutional passage by the United States Congress.
- As Chairman he wrote, organized and implemented the first black EEO-Sub Committee for the Navy (On the concern of Black Federal Employees) at Naval Supply Center of Oakland, California 1975.
- Was an active member of the NAACP, the Shomburg Society and the American Planetary Society, and the American Planetary Society, The Society of History, Technology, and Culture, along with several other Organizations.
