Lola L. Chin's Obituary
Lola L. Chin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully in Oakland on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 94 years of age.
Always the epitome of elegance and responsibility, Lola was born in Oakland, California and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. Among 6 children of Mar Sen Que and K.Y. Lee, Lola was responsible beyond her years. She helped in her parents grocery store, baby sat her siblings, did house chores, drove her mom and sisters to activities, was an ROTC Sponsor (color guard), all while going to school.
In her married years, she co-owned and managed her husband James’s restaurant “Jim’s” in Emeryville, CA. Jim’s was a favorite, local haunt of many of the workers and families in area. Many a fish story was told amongst the great food and spirits provide by Lola and Jimmy. She enjoyed her time off visiting San Francisco night clubs and dining with Jimmy, and later traveling together throughout the world. She loved ballroom dancing. A fantastic cook, she also enjoyed hosting wonderful dinners for family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Gary and his wife Janie, Cynthia and her husband Eddie, grandchildren – Eric, Megan, and Zachary, and great grandchildren – Lucas and Sophie. She is also survived by her sisters – Mary and Lily (Sister Anna and brothers, Harry and Charlie, are deceased). Her husband of 50 years, James, and children Karen and Rodney are deceased.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on March 16, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of the Chimes at 4499 Piedmont Avenue Oakland, CA 94611
