Lois Thomas' Obituary
Lois V. Thomas, 95, of Oakland CA, passed away November 19, 2017.
Lois was born in Roundup, MT on January 13, 1922. The family soon moved to California in 1925, settling in Oakland where she spent her youth. Lois graduated from Oakland High and received a Bachelor’s degree in education from San Francisco State University. Lois worked as a teacher and speech therapist in the San Jose school district from 1953-1985.
Lois had a passion for music that lasted throughout her life. She was an accomplished trumpet player, performing in orchestras, bands, and music ensembles. She also enjoyed playing the guitar, piano, and violin. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska to visit her brother and family.
Lois was a very independent, articulate, self sufficient woman. She was an excellent conversationalist, eager to talk about matters of interest such as music, nature and animal advocacy. She loved cats, and owned several throughout her life. She was very proud of her home in the Oakland Hills where she lived for over 50 years and enjoyed living in the East Bay.
Lois’ beloved older brother, Marlowe predeceased her, and she is survived by her nieces, Karen Thomas and Ashley Lanier of Anchorage, AK and Kathryn Hendrickson-Eagles of Longmont CO.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00 am, January 26, at Oakland Chapel of the Chimes, with Rev. Anne Swanson presiding.
