A BEAUTIFUL LIFE’S JOURNEY “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” II Timothy 4:7-8 Litta Viola Humphreys “Mother Dear” was born January 30, 1918 in Oakland, Californiato her loving parents, William Dewit Smith and Amelia Davis. She received her formal education at Castlemont High School. After she met Claude K. Jenkins in 1937, they were married. She later married Leonard Humphreys, Sr. in 1948. Mother Dear accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. In the late 1960’s she became a member of Allen Temple Baptist Church and served on the Nurse’s Guild for many years. She later joined the Imani Community Church, where she remained a faithful member until the Lord called her home on December 4, 2011. Mother Dear loved children. This love inspired her decision to open her own in-home childcare in 1962, where she helped raise neighborhood children until 1992. She loved helping and serving others. After retirement, her favorite past time was watching daytime soap operas.She loved traveling, listening to jazz and fellowship with family and close friends. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her daughter, Claudette Towns and son, Leonard Humphreys, Jr.; grandchildren, Amelia Brown, Deanne Moore, Laverne Anderson, Claude Robins, Craig Robins, Lavada Robins, Litta Towns, Terisha Johnson, Tai Shim Humphreys, Terrance Humphreys, Cameron Towns, Ceontae Towns and Charles Towns . She was also blessed with 28 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. Her siblings, Matilda Scott, Claire Meadows, Louise Tompkins, Dewitt Smith and Dee Smith preceded her in death. She also leaves nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
