Linda Sue Karriem's Obituary
Linda S. Karriem, known to many as Munirah Sweet, made her ascension peacefully on Sunday, June 29th, 2008 in the presence of her loving family. Linda was born on December 8th, 1949 in Minden, LA to Thelma and the late Welton Jackson. Linda attended Webster High School in Minden, LA, and her commitment to academic excellence brought her to California to attend the University of California at Berkeley. Linda later taught at the University of Islam in San Francisco, CA. After her time at the University of Islam she co-founded, the Akbar Learning Center in Oakland, CA, an innovative private school. Linda began a career with the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and married Phillip Sweet. From this union two children were born. The last 30 years of her beautiful life was dedicated to guiding and educating her children Phillip and Roniece Sweet while advancing her career at Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). A highly creative and humble soul, Linda touched many lives and was blessed with the gift of diverse friendships and was loved by all. She leaves to continue her memory five brothers and three sisters. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at 12 noon at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611 (510)654.0123.
