Lily M. Lee's Obituary
Lily Moy Lee
May 6, 1927 – October 16, 2013
Lily, a resident of Oakland, passed away peacefully on October 16, at the age of 86. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Sui Ling Mui (father) and Fung Cheung Huie (mother). She and her parents moved to China when she was eight months old. She received her education at a Christian school in China and was baptized at the age of sixteen.
Lily returned to the United States when she was nineteen. She worked as a waitress where she soon met her husband, Stanley. She loved sewing and became an outstanding and gifted seamstress who could sew, alter, or repair anything made from cloth. She was also a very accomplished quilter. In retirement, she continued sewing and cherished her time at the Oakland Senior Center where she participated in many programs and enjoyed visiting with her friends.
She loved to cook for her children & grandchildren. She learned of each child’s favorite food and made a special effort to make it available as often as possible. Daniel especially loved canned picnic ham sandwiches and Ho-hos; Vivian loved her bi-monthly oven baked BBQ pork spare ribs; Sylvia always looked forward to braised chicken feet; and, Angie loved her stuffed zucchini. She was also very brave risking life and limb whenever she shopped in some tough neighborhoods for the ingredients to everyone’s favorite meal – ox tail stew. Lily’s kindness and generosity will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Lily is survived by her husband of 62 years, Stanley, son, Daniel (Phyllis), and daughters, Vivian (Nelson), Sylvia (Don), and Angie (Kevin). She was a loving grandmother who doted on her grandchildren Eric, Matthew, Brian, Amanda, Kevin, Michael, Nikko, and Cameron. Her sisters, Josephine Tsang and Evelyn Wee; and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Her sister, Shan Shan Yuen, and brother, Hang Chau Mui, predecease her.
Visitation will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland, on Thursday, October 24, 2013, 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Funeral service will also be held at the Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland, on Friday, October 25, 2013, at 1:00pm.
