Lillian Amalie Hinrichs' Obituary
Lillian was born in San Francisco on March 10, 1921 to Mathis and Astrid Jessen. At an early age, the family moved to Oakland where her father eventually opened his own grocery store. When Lillian was old enough she and her brother helped their parents in the grocery store after school.
Both of Lillian's parents were born and raised in Denmark and at age 6, Lillian's mother took Lillian and her brother to Denmark for six months to meet all the family. This was an experience for Lillian and she enjoyed telling her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren stories about her trip and the family she met.
Dancing, piano, horseback riding and ice skating were lessons Lillian learned while growing up. Dancing and piano were her favorites and she continued with them for many years. She performed the Danish folk dances many times for Danish functions in San Francisco and when the San Francisco Bay Bridge opened, Lillian represented Denmark on the Float of Nations in the opening ceremonies.
Lillian worked as a loan officer for over 30 years, first in Oakland and later in Martinez. She enjoyed her job because she met some very interesting people. After she retired, she and her husband went on several cruises and trips to Oregan, Washington, Canada. Ohio, South Carolina and Georgia.
Lillian moved into assistant living once she reached her ninties but she didn't slow down. At the age of 102 she was still going to her Great-granddaughters' softball games and dance recitals.
Lillian had a very full life. She loved 1950's and 60's movies, a beautiful sunny morning and fresh flowers. But above all, she loved her family. She was a wise, nuturing and loving mother to her daughter, Kathie Young of Colorado and Vikky (Ken) Del Rosa of Antioch, a cherished grandmother to Julie (Don) Ramsey of Colorado, Laura (Nick) Krowell of Georgia, Denise (Jeff) Gallagher of Fairfield and Mathew (Linsay) Del Rosa of Martinez and a very special, kind and understanding Great-Grandmother to Nick and Eric Ramsey Colorado, Kaitlyn and Kara Krowell of Sacramento and Allison and Maddie Del Rosa or Martinez. This beautiful, kind, talented and loving lady will be forever loved and missed.
Lillian wished to have a private family service.
