Leticia Limon's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Leticia "Tish" Limon
It is with profound sadness that the Limon family announces the passing of Leticia "Tish" Limon, who we lost suddenly at the age of 63 on November 26, 2024.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Oakland, CA, Tish is a graduate of Santa Barbara High School, attended Mills College, and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from UC Berkeley. Tish developed a passion for cooking while living with her grandmother Margaret while attending Santa Barbara High School. Upon graduation from UC Berkeley, she had full intentions of becoming a doctor and was accepted to Medical School. Before leaving for medical school, she boldly pivoted and registered for one trimester at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, which changed her life forever.
Tish built a remarkable career as a chef in some of the Bay Area's most renowned restaurants. Her culinary journey began at Montclair’s Thornhill Café and Berkeley’s Fourth Street Bar and Grill, where she developed her culinary expertise and passion for the art. She later worked alongside culinary legends Jeremiah Tower and Larry Doyle at Stars Restaurant & Stars Café, which at the time were trendsetting and internationally recognized restaurants. Tish continued her celebrated career at Spectrum Foods’ San Francisco restaurant MacArthur Park. She later served as the Chef at the Mission District’s Luna Park for ten years in the 2000s and later rejoined her old friend Larry Doyle to help open the beloved neighborhood gastropub Parkside Tavern in San Francisco's Sunset District.
Tish will be remembered for her passion and commitment to value, high standards, and quality in the kitchen, which also held true to her love and dedication to her family.
Over the past two years, Tish put her career on hold to care for her elderly mother full-time. As Tish was a leader in her professional roles, she was also a leader in her family and was the rock for her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She had a special and loving relationship with each of them and provided sage advice and tough love when needed. From a young age, Tish was an extremely intelligent and gifted leader with unwavering values and passions for food, music, reading, and travel.
She is survived by her loving mother, Teresa Limon, and her siblings: Denise Limon, Robert Limon (Maria Laxo), David Limon (Claudia Scherer), and Thomas Limon (Cristy Johnston).
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Tish’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, 4499 Piedmont Avenue. A live stream of the memorial service will also be provided for anyone unable to attend in person.
Following the service, a celebration with light fare will be held at one of her favorite Oakland Irish Pubs, Sláinte, at 131 Broadway, Oakland. The celebration will continue until 8 p.m. Tish’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved her and the many lives she touched through her culinary talents. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the following organization supporting youth and the arts in Oakland.
