I’m very sorry indeed to have missed news of Lessel’s death. She was a fine woman, a good friend, a true believer in community work. Hillside School, just north of the Berkeley campus, now a private residence, was our passion. We defended our teachers with in-classroom help, and earned money for PTA projects by renting parking space on Cal football days. And we so enjoyed each other’s company.
