LaVan "Cookie" Patton's Obituary
LaVan “Cookie” Patton was born on 1/4/39 in Oklahoma to Dorothy & Eddie Patton. He was the oldest of 4 children.
LaVan attended Malcolm X, Burbank and Berkeley High School in Berkeley Ca. Later, he was inducted into Berkeley High hall of fame because of his athletic ability. He also attended Oakland College.
After college he worked at Alta Bates hospital as a cook. Later became head chef at Oscars. He worked there for many years and developed close relationships with professional athletics. After working at Oscars, he worked at Pier 39 as a custodial supervisor many years. He catered hundreds of Bay Area events. He was know for his bbq and potatoe salad. He was an army vet.
Cookie enjoyed hosting parties and bbqs regularly. He enjoyed all bay area sports.
In 1963 he married Jaqueline Ray. From that union, they had one son. Kurt LaVan Patton.
In 1971 he established a relationship with lda l. Huey who had one daughter, Ginger Huey.
He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, love of entertaining and love of family.
Preceded ln death: Parents Dorothy & Eddie Patton, Sisters Patty Patton, Mary White,Florence Patton and soulmate, Ida Huey.
Leaves to cherish: Son, Kurt L Patton(Pam Carino) of Dublin, stepdaughter Ginger Huey of San Leandro, granddaughter Ciarra Patton, bonus daughter/niece Khia Payne-Davis, special nephew, Derrell Laird(Verena) of Berkeley and loving partner Hattie Farrow and a host of nieces and nephew and friends that will greatly miss him.
