Lauretta A. Barbera's Obituary
Lauretta passed away at age 89 in Oakland, CA. with her loving daughters at her side on Easter Sunday April 20, 2003. Lauretta (Aurelia) along with her parents and siblings departed Palermo, Sicily, Italy on the ship Henry S. Mallory to start a new life. Arrival was on February 17, 1921 into Ellis Island, New York. With determination and hard work the family was able to accomplish a good life and provide for their families giving them the opportunity to prosper/ Their’s was a generation of hop that so much could be accomplished with the bond of family. hard work and faith. For that, Lauretts’s family is grateful and we owe so much gratitude to our mother for giving us an opportunity for a fruitful and comfortable life. Lauretta’s greatest joy was her family who she cared for with love and devotion. Among her other pleasure she was a world traveler and a master gardner. Her lifelong work was in the restaurant industry and it was occupation that she engaged in with great satisfaction and accomplishment. She truly enjoyed her work. She was predeceased by her only son, Dominic Barbera. She leaves behind her daughters Joan Barbera and Josie Young, grandson James Barbera, and son-in-law Ed Young. Lauretta was cared for in her home for her last years of life with love and affection by her daughters and devoted caregivers Dory and Mary. She will live with so much love in our hearts forever.
