Laura Leong's Obituary
Laura (In Hing) Leong
October 9, 1927 ' June 21, 2013
Laura (In Hing) Leong passed away peacefully in her home on June 21, 2013. She was surrounded by her children, Sandra Pike, Lawrence Leong and his wife Dora, Janice Mann and Suzanne Leong and is survived by seven grandchildren (Wendy Garrison and her husband Michael, Matthew Leong, David Ko and his wife Alix Jerinic, Rachel Mann and Michael Mann) and one great-grandchild (Brian Garrison) who all loved her dearly.
Laura was born in Guangzhou, China and moved to Oakland, California in 1949 as a young bride. She was devoted to her family, her church and her work. After over 15 years of running a small business, she spent more than 20 years at UC Berkeley catering to the needs of hungry students. She loved going to work and often shared fond stories of the hundreds of kids who referred to her as their 'Cal Mom.'
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and travel. She took over a dozen cruises, touring all parts of the world and considered herself fortunate to see so many different places and experience exotic cultures.
She touched the hearts of every one she encountered and will be missed.
A private viewing for immediate family was conducted at the Chapel of the Chimes. Interment services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her name to: Oakland Kaiser Hospice Program, 3701 Broadway, Suite 300 Oakland CA 94611.
