Larry Kettelhut's Obituary
Larry LeSeur Kettelhut, 73, of Alameda, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of June 13 in Fairfield, CA with family by his side, after a 6-month long battle with Cancer.
Larry was born in Oakland, CA to Dr. Howard and Iva Kettelhut of Alameda. Larry was a lifelong resident of Alameda. After graduating from Encinal High School, he went on to earn a master’s degree in accounting from San Jose State, and a Law Degree from San Francisco Law School. He retired from Tharco in San Lorenzo after working as their Head Accountant for many years. Larry was an avid swimmer and he and his wife Barbara enjoyed cruising and visiting Hawaii. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Larry was an accomplished musician and played clarinet, flute, and saxophone, with the saxophone becoming his passion. He loved playing and performing jazz music with several bands. Most recently he could be seen and heard playing jazz music with fellow band members in the Gold Coast on one of the band member’s lawns during Covid for all to enjoy.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Howard and Iva Kettelhut and his daughter Kerrie Ann Kettelhut. He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years Barbara Kettelhut of Alameda, his sister Janet Kettelhut of Lafayette, CA, his daughter Sarylsue Kettelhut DiFabio of Fairfield, CA, grandson Steven Kettelhut of Campbell, CA, granddaughter Christine Gaster of Vacaville, CA, granddaughter Lillith Olsem of Reno, NV, and great-grandchildren Lilian, Hunter, Anastasia, Jayden, Lincoln, Adaline and Aubriela.
The family would especially like to thank the outstanding doctors, nurses, and attendants of Alameda Hospital for the amazing care and compassion he received during his 6 weeks there.
A memorial service will be held for Larry on August 12, 2022, at 2pm at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland followed by his internment there.
