Lai Ching Yu Poon's Obituary
Lai Ching was born in Kwangtung, China on March 7, 1917 to Yu Sum Foo and Wong Si. She had two brothers and a sister.
She was educated in China as a teacher. Losing her parents at a young age, she was raised by her uncle and aunt whom she lived with until she met her eventual husband Tso Fong. They met in Guangzhou, China and were married in Hong Kong in 1938. Lai Ching and Tso Fong were happily married for 62 years until he passed away in 2000.
They had three children, Steven, David and Helen. Steven, their eldest, died as an infant. Their family initially immigrated to Australia in 1952 eventually relocating permanently to the United States in 1959. After spending 6 years in Indianapolis, they settled down in Los Angeles. Lai Ching was a homemaker and devoted mother of her two children.
In 1991, Lai Ching and Tso Fong moved to Cupertino to be with their two children and five grandchildren: Emily, Jennifer, Alan, Erik and Brandon. She was also blessed to have spent time with her great grand daughter, Lauren, who is now two years old. Lai Ching’s hobbies were playing Mah Jong and teaching Tai Chi at the Chinese senior center in Cupertino.
Lai Ching passed away peacefully on January 10, 2014.
