Markham, Kenneth's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chef Kenneth D. Markham, a beloved
father, partner, and friend, who passed away unexpectedly on Christmas morning, 2024, at the
age of 42. Kenny was a joyful and dedicated family man whose vibrant energy and love for life
touched all who knew him.
Born in Oakland, California on 12/6/1982, Kenny was introduced to the world of cooking at a
very young age by his grandmother, who shared with him a passion for creating meals that
brought people together. As a child, he would spend countless hours in the kitchen, eagerly
learning the intricacies of flavors, spices, and techniques. His bond with his grandmother was
the foundation of his culinary journey, one that would shape his future in profound ways.
His love for cooking led him to pursue a formal education in the culinary arts, graduating from
the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, where he earned his trade certificate. This was
the beginning of a career that would span more than two decades. Over the years, he honed his
skills and developed a deep appreciation for the art of cooking, eventually joining Aurora
Catering. For ten years, he delighted countless clients with his unique recipes and impeccable
attention to detail, making every event he catered a memorable experience.
But it wasn’t just in the kitchen where Kenny excelled; his devotion to his family was
unparalleled. He was the proud father of two biological children and a loving father figure to his
three adopted siblings, whom he took in and raised with unwavering care and dedication.
Despite the challenges that life threw their way, all five of his children graduated from high
school, either on time or early—a testament to Kenny’s commitment to providing a stable and
nurturing home.
Outside of his professional and parental responsibilities, Kenny was a man who knew how to
enjoy life. He cherished his childhood vacations, where he would spend time snowboarding with
his family and camping in the beautiful landscapes of Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. These
memories shaped his adventurous spirit and love for nature, qualities he passed down to his
children and shared with his fiancée.
Kenny spent the last 15 years with his fiancée whom he adored deeply. Together, they created
a home full of love, laughter, and shared memories. When they weren’t out on dinner dates,
they could often be found snuggling up to watch their favorite movies and TV shows, enjoying
the simple pleasures of life. Their relationship was a model of mutual respect and
companionship, built on a deep emotional connection and shared values.
Known as the family chef, Kenny was the glue that held his extended family together. Whether it
was hosting large family gatherings or cooking a quiet meal at home, his meals were more than
just food—they were a way to bring loved ones closer. His youthful energy and infectious
enthusiasm made him a magnetic presence, and his younger cousins, nieces, and nephews
gravitated toward him, drawn to his genuine, kind nature. His closest bond was with his cousins,
many of whom were close in age, sharing not only childhood memories but an enduring
friendship that lasted throughout his life. He and his cousins enjoyed playing sports in their
childhood so it’s no surprise that they would often gather for Superbowl Sundays.
In his final days, Kenny was filled with excitement for the holidays, eager to reunite with his
children during the break. His last days were filled with joy, looking forward to the time he would
spend with family, sharing laughter and love. His unexpected passing on Christmas morning
leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. However, it is God’s unchanging love that
provides his family and friends with a supernatural peace that surpasses all understanding.
Chef Kenny’s legacy will live on through his family, friends and colleagues in the culinary world
tasting his incredible food and experiencing the warmth of his spirit. His memory will forever be
cherished, and his life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Kenny is survived by his fiancee Veronica (Vee) Crosby, granny Katie Markham, father Kenneth
W. Markham, siblings Kenisha Markham, Kaury Markham, Kiara Darvonne Bowling, Donny
Blackmon and Christina Blackmon, his two young adult children, Katelyn Jayla Markham and
Kameron Markham and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Rest in peace, Chef Kenny. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
