Kay Kazuko Kuroda's Obituary
Kay Kazuko Kuroda was born June 6, 1930 in Tokyo, Japan to Kintaro Shindo and Yae Takahashi. She passed away peacefully on January 15, 2017 at 6:25pm in Oakland California at the age of 86. Kay endured the hardships growing up in World War II Japan. After the war, she worked in the secretarial pool at Tachikawa Air Base in Tokyo where she met her future husband, Army Staff Sergeant William Masatoshi Kuroda who worked for Military Intelligence. From Japan they moved to central Calfornia, first to Parlier and later Fresno to run a twenty acre vegetable farm. She also worked as a seamstress for Gottschalks Department Store and as head tailor for Walter Smith’s. She was a skilled ballroom dancer and won several awards over the years, most often for the cha cha. Upon retiring she moved to Los Angeles to live in Little Tokyo. She enjoyed shopping at Costco and going out to dine at Japanese and Chinese restaurants as well as at her favorite seafood buffets. She is survived by her three children, Emily, Paul and Douglas; four grandchildren, Robert, Casey, Michael and Susan; and one great grandson Ethan, with whom she shared a special bond.
