Kan-Chiu Mok's Obituary
Mr. Kan-Chiu Mok, “莫伯“, age 92, passed peacefully in his Castro Valley home on November 27, 2018. In his final days, he was surrounded by his loving family.
Kan-Chiu leaves his wife of 63 years, Yuk-Wan; daughter Maxine and husband John; son Sherman and wife Grace; son Steve and wife Lannie; his youngest son Martin and wife Noel. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan, Kandace, Ashley, Nathan, Kelly, Megan and Raymond.
Kan-Chiu was born and raised in Hong Kong. During the 60’s, he was one of the first pioneers of the “14-seat” mini-bus industry in Hong Kong and had served terms as vice-chairman of its chamber of commerce when it was first established.
To unite with his children, Kan-Chiu and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1986. Later he was spiritually reborn as a Christian and was baptized on the Easter Sunday of 2001. Kan-Chiu loved classical Chinese literature and as a pastime wrote prose pieces from day to day to keep up his calligraphic skills. While he was not reading and writing he loved to be spending precious moments with his sons, daughter and grandchildren.
Kan-Chiu was a kind and compassionate man that everybody had known him for throughout his life. He was greeted as “莫伯”in Chinese, meaning “big uncle Mok” respectfully. He was also a modest gentleman and always wore a smiling face. His amiable nature had made him friends from many walks of lives. He is missed sorely – and by many.
A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland at 3 O’clock in the afternoon.
4499 Piedmont Ave, Oakland
An interment service will be followed by a private prayer time for close friends and relatives at the same Chapel location at 11 O’clock, the following day.
