Julia Kazumi Haramaki's Obituary
Julia Kazumi Haramaki passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, at the age of 87, just shy of her 88th birthday. Born in Oakland on April 2, 1937, Julia was known for her strong will and determination, qualities that remained with her until her physical limitations took their toll. She and her husband Shozo (Harry, as many knew him) made their home in the East Bay, where they raised their family.
Julia was employed by the Oakland Unified School District, retiring as a purchasing agent in 2000. Upon retiring, Julia took the opportunity to spend more time with her family and friends and indulged in her favorite hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, watching Korean movies, gambling, cooking, and baking, activities that brought her joy and relaxation. Julia learned new skills quickly and often made crafts that were better than the ones she saw. Her creativity and talent were evident in everything she did, from sewing projects to cooking and baking and other handmade items that she lovingly created.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Shozo. She is survived by her three children: Mitchell (Mina), Kim, and Garret. Her grandchildren, Rikiya, Momoka, and Julz, will always cherish the memories they shared with their grandmother. Julia is also survived by her sister Carol, who remained a close and supportive presence in her life.
