She was born in Oakland, California January 3, 1941 to Pocahontas and John Ware.
Joyce was raised in Alameda where she graduated from Alameda High School and received her bachelor's degree from California State University Hayward in Black Studies.
In addition to her career as a caterer/events Planner and retiring from the Alameda County Department of Social Service, Joyce was a passionate and devoted artist. During retirement, she discovered a new artistic calling after taking courses in stained glass making at the Mastick Senior Center in Alameda. Joyce leaves behind a treasure trove of one-of-a-kind stained glass creations.
She was involved in numerous civic groups, where she served in both leadership and supportive roles. Joyce especially cherished the sisterhood that she enjoyed as a member of Today’s Women and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
A vivacious and generous hostess, Joyce loved bringing people together for impromptu luncheons, holiday dinners, milestone events and cultural celebrations. A consummate bon vivant, Joyce was known to “cut a rug” dancing with her favorite dance partner, Jimmie, family and friends. She lit up any room that she entered with her magnetic personality and megawatt smile.
An intimate memorial will be held on June 18, 2022. Live streaming will be available for all.
