Mr. Clive Joseph Lawrence's Obituary
Clive Joseph Lawrence of Oakland California, also affectionately known as “The Policeman or Clivey” was born December 20, 1952 to Frances Ju Pierre and Magdalena Laurencin in Castries, St. Lucia in the Caribbean.
When Clive lived in St. Lucia he attended R C Boy’s Primary school in Castries. He was an altar boy until age 17 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Bexon. He worked for Hess Oil as a heavy equipment operator. But he became island famous when he became a police officer for the Central Police station in Castries where he served for 4 years. When he moved to the United States in 1983, he developed many talents and interests that included automotive work, construction, locksmith, drafting, motorcycles, landscaping, sailing, dancing, traveling, and fishing. He was a self-taught carpenter, painter, plumber, electrician, and auto mechanic. Often you would see him reading the many manuals where he learned to fix cars and trucks. In the past 20 years he has owned, fixed, or sold 27 cars and trucks and has remodeled hundreds of properties all over the Bay Area. Clive was very generous with his talents, always willing to help a neighbor or friend. If there was a tool or item that someone needed, you can be assured that he had it in stock. His goal was to help do something to improve the quality of life for everyone that he touched.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife of 16 years, Sheila , his sisters, Francillia (Sica) Emmanual, Regina and Patricia Laurencin; his brothers Boniface, Thanwee, Leslie, and McMillian Laurencin; his aunts Julianna Green and Mary Baptist; his uncle Antoine Anatole; his father-in-law Stephen Pope; his children Darny Lawrence, Alvin (Burt) Lawrence, Kendal (Ted) Lawrence, Sharalyn Lawrence, Barry Cox, Christina Lawrence, Owen Lawrence, Tava Lawrence; his niece Jasmine Emmanual; his stepdaughters Angie and Chas Madison; his 14 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins around the world. Finally, the many Lucian and American friends who were touch by his “fascinating stories” and his ability to instantly make you feel like family.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service to be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Patten Christian Cathedral, 2433 Coolidge Avenue at 5:00 PM.
