Jose Grima's Obituary
Jose Grima Mar. 19, 1931 – Mar. 20, 2011 Resident of San Ramon Jose Grima died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on the evening of his 80th birthday. Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Florence, his daughters Patricia and partner Josie Ramos; Cristine and fiance’ Sam McMillan; son Steven and wife Helena; and his four grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Sarah and Isabella. He is also survived by his brothers Willie and Frank Grima of Southern California. Joe Grima was born in the Imperial Valley of California during the Great Depression, served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, attended UC Berkeley, worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, was a BART train operator for 36 years and a former president of the Amalgamated Transit Union local 1555. Joe was a hard worker, enthusiastic mentor, opinionated follower of current events, and funny story teller. He had a great love for his family and will be remembered by those closest to him as a beloved and loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed. Visitation services and a Rosary will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, from 4-8 pm on Thursday, March 24. A funeral mass will be held Friday, March 25, at 10:15 am at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4850 Clarewood Drive in Oakland.
