John Charles Turner's Obituary
John Charles Turner was born November 21, 1927 in Mccaskill Arkansas to Horace and Queen Esther Turner. He was the oldest of nine children. At the age of 15 he made the journey to Oakland California along with his mother and younger siblings. Their father later joined them. They later moved to Berkeley California where he attended high school. The Turner family started Queen's Cleaners in 1944 in Oakland, California. John met and married Lola Mae Ward on March 21, 1946. John and Lola recently celebrated 60 remarkable years of marriage. In 1962 John was able to turn a life long hobby of repairing automobiles into a career with his employment at General Motors in Oakland California which he retired from in 1988. He didn't consider this work becaused he loved working on cars. He made many friends while employed there and they became his extended family. He believed in God and was a very spiritual person. John was a loving and generous man. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He had an infectious smile that made you feel at ease. John befriended everyone he came incontact with. He was a caring husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great- grandfather. John loved to spend time with his family and friends, traveling, listing to music, playing dominos and repairing automobiles. In the afternoon of June 1, 2006 the Lord called John home to eternal rest from this labor. John was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Queen Esther Turner, brothers Adolphus and Horace Ray Turner, uncle Adolphus Turner and great- grandson Raymond Chambers.
