John and i met and became friends in the Navy in 1955. I think back on the times that he brought many of us to his aunt's home for a home-cooked meal! We remained friends after our military service and talked often about many subjects. Our friendship spanned 70 years! I last spoke with him a few days beford he passed. I will miss you "Sonny Boy!" John, for me was like that favorite uncle I always wish I had. He was to become like a son to my mother and when he introduced us to his new bride, lovely Lottie, soon became my brand new auntie. John was generous, dependable, frank and a "straight to the point" kind of close family friend. One that will truly be missed far beyond my ability to describe, but nonetheless will forever be a memorable part of my early youth development and far beyond. His daughters were his pride and joy and they have been blessedly rewarded with having John Steib to call their "Dad" and Lottie... "Mom!'"
I was truly BLESSED that my Uncle Huntly would always call to check in and chat. What I enjoyed the most was our sharing what we were cooking for the day. Most of the time I didn’t quite meet his standards of a proper meal, but I got a pass. I am going to miss you Uncle Huntley.
