John Pontrelli's Obituary
John Pontrelli, resident of Danville Ca. for 51 years, passed away at age 88 on April 4, 2017.
John entered into rest and peace after the wonderful doctors at Kaiser worked diligently to
restore his health after cardiac issues in June 2016.
John was born on July 13, 1928 in Bari Italy, and came to America with his parents and two
brothers in 1935 where they settled in Oakland Ca.
John attended Oakland High where he met his wife to be Karen Johansson. They married on
September 12, 1948 and had two wonderful children, our dear Shari now deceased, and loving
son Corey.
Many are left with empty hearts including his wife Karen, son Corey, wonderful daughter in law
Cynthia, grandchildren Trevor, Hali, Taylor and Piper, and dear nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed a career as a salesmen for Campus Men’s and Boy’s Sportswear, traveling
between the Oregon border and Central Valley. He later maintained a showroom on Market St
in San Francisco, leaving the traveling days behind.
Upon retirement from Campus, he began working for the wonderful Daughtrey family at their
department store in Castro Valley, in the men’s dept.
John finally retired and was able to enjoy golf with his buddies Dave, Steve and Scott.
He also loved gardening, and took great pride in his crop of Tomatoes each season. John also
looked forward to gatherings and holidays with family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Thursday April 20th , at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont
Ave Oakland Ca. The Chimes Chapel.
Funeral Service will be Friday morning April 21st at 11:00 a.m. Chimes Chapel, internment will
follow. There will be a reception in the first floor reception area from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m.
