We were joined in a lasting friendship nurtured by a love of airplanes. We spent our grammar and early high school days until losing contact when John changed to Alameda High and I to Hayward High. Then again we found each other in the Hayward Air National Guard. What a time we had during those two weeks of Air Guard summer camp in Boise Idaho; 1957. Then I went into the Marines, John remain with the guard. Then a chance meeting at Kaiser Hospital sometime in the early 80â??s; John their managing carpenter, I wondering through the halls; seeing each other rekindled a new beginning; since that time it became the four of us, John, Karen, Carolyn and me; what a team, what wonderful times never to be forgotten. Goodbye old friend, I will always remember. Ron and Carolyn Darcey
I had the privilege of working closely with John for 2 years as his apprentice in the early 80's. He taught me so much about how to do quality carpentry and while my career went in another direction, his lessons still stay with me today. I've remolded 2 homes with my wife and I could never have done the work without the knowledge John passed along to me. He taught me far more important lessons in life however and he was truly a man you would look up to. His humor, phraseology, nicknames and love of life made an impression on me that I could only hope to pass along to a young man in need. He was a mentor and an apt listener that always offered sage advice. Thank you John and God bless you. I look forward to seeing you on the other side.In Christ,Gordon Sanderson
My good friend, my brother,my confidant,is gone. There is a huge void in my heart knowing I wont see him and laugh with him and share stories with him. He was a great storyteller and always had an ear for what you had to say and listened patiently.Didn't always agree and told you so but always showed respect and would offer you a beer. So much that you could learn from John…just listen to his message and you knew he was a good man,,,loved his family dearly and held his friends close, always. I loved him John Long
John had a smile and personality that would light up a room. He had many friends becuase he was a friend to many. Always ready to lend a helping hand. From being a bridesmaid in their wedding, to the later years, I was privileged to be a part of their life.John's passing leaves a big hole in all of our hearts.Linda Davis
