John and Lesley became members of Auburn Presbyterian Church just a few months ago and we were so happy to have them! The photos are of John's baptism and a new member gathering. Our hearts are with Lesley and all who knew John.
Oh John. Why now? I'm going to miss you.
I first met john at inland valley intermediate school and remained close friends through high school. John loved music, sports, cars and most of all, his close friends. John taught me how to have fun and experience life. We spent many summers waterskiing at Clear Lake and Lake Tahoe.
I remember us going to the bay with his dad (Sr. Goog) to water ski. We weren't aware that there may be sharks waiting for us in that deep water! I asked John if it was safe and he replied "yeah, my dad said it would be ok."
We went to every Seals hockey game in Oakland and always "dined and dashed" at Fenton's Ice Cream Parlor (an Oakland Landmark). We would go to Berkley for lunch at Hunger Pangs Chinese restaurant and tower records afterwards. We also liked to people watch. John explained to me who the Hari Krishna people with the white gowns and shaven heads were. I was glad he knew.
On Sr. Prom Night, John and I double dated. John and his date came over to my parents' house. John's date ended up passing out in my living room while taking pictures! That was the beginning of a crazy night.
I saw John about 8 months ago and we reminisced about the past. He seemed so content and happy. He had a drone that he showed me how to fly. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world.
Goog, I'm going to miss you, I have so many memories to remember you by. Love you and God speed. Rick

H.H. - what great memories and laughs over 50+ years. Starting at IVI in the early 1970’s. No one made me laugh more. A man of many nicknames! Great memories include:
Watching “The Catch” on TV at the Coral Drive home
Softball in Moraga with Junk Male and Al’s Moraga Exxon
“I’ll sleep here” during the Bonedaddy’s show at the Omni in Oakland
Surprising him with front row seats at Peter Gabriel concert for his birthday in December 1986.
Countless 49er, A’s and Giants games.
Spring Training at the Desert Rose in Phoenix - Mickey’s, Pink Pony, Bill Johnson’s (“we dont fool ya, we feed ya”), Honey Bears BBQ (“you don’t need no teeth to eat our meat”), fotos with Bill King and Lon Simmons, etc.
And so many more…
No one can take those memories away. I love you H. H. You will be missed. RIP

You are now and will always be my Googie Bear! I love you and I miss you so very much! I will think of you everyday for the rest of my life. Holding hands with you every night until we fell asleep. Looking at the note you left on the fridge which said "I Love you Baby" "you're mine".
I love you Honey and I always will. You completed me. ❤️❤️
I grew up next door to the Hoovers in High School, and got to know T Roy, Marjorie, and Nancy, (one of John’s twin sisters), while attending Miramonte. John and I were both in the class of ‘77. We shared many incredible days skiing in the Sierras. John skied with a smoothness and grace matched by few on the slopes. His effortless style was something to behold. He would invite me up to the family cabin in Meeks Bay throughout the year, where we would visit with Nancy, waterski, jump off the Rubicon Rocks into the lake, snow ski, and explore Lake Tahoe. One time he and I decided to go ice skating in Blythe Arena at the Olympic Village at Squaw Valley. On the way, a raging blizzard erupted with “snowflakes” the size of baseballs. The snow was coming down so fast, it lifted the wipers off the windshield and rendered them useless. John wound up rolling down the window and sticking his head outside in order to see! When he pulled his head back inside, it was covered with snow! One of the more scary weather moments I’ve ever experienced.
Craig, John and Jim at Ray and Julie’s wedding!
RIP John!
I remember John so fondly. He was so thoughtful and kind. When I came to their home for a visit he came home from work and presented me with a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses. He loved and cared for my best friend Lesley and they enjoyed many years together. I know that he will be welcomed into heaven. RIP my dear friend.
