If you could say she had one passion, it would be cooking. She enjoyed cooking for Church pastors and members. When she knew someone was sick, she would make a batch of Chicken Noodle soup and take it to them. Herb was the delivery driver and it gave them something to do in retirement together.
She was in the Singing Choir Girls, a member of the Sister of Service. She volunteered in the PACE cafeteria for many years. Cooked for the youth choir in Squaw Valley. JoElla and Herb had a swinging door of house guests for food and fellowship, there would be games, spirited debate and laughter. She would host lots of Holiday dinners and invite family and church members, sometimes there would be 50 plus people there.
She hosted many birthdays, bridal, bachelor and baby showers. Everyone was always welcome in her home. One of the last times she cooked for her church family, she made over 100 zucchini bread loafs and tried to make sure everyone received one.
JoElla went into the presence of her Savior peacefully in her sleep on January 21, 2021 at the age of 88. She was a great mother and woman of God who served Him faithfully.
JoElla’s final resting place will be at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon California with her beloved husband Herb.
