Mercedes, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mother and I go back to the eighties. You were about five or six and her little treasure.
I remember the first time I walked into Lady J for my nail appointment. Not only was she a gorgeous woman, but she also had a bubbly kind spirited personality. Like the kids say, we Vive from day one. She had an upscale, elegant shop on Lakeshore Avenue, Oakland. One of the first that I knew of where you could do it all: nails, hairstyle, purchasing clothes. You can walk out and be ready to party. I felt so blessed that a black woman was the owner and running such an impeccable business. We would laugh and talk and sometime would have a glass of champagne.
You were brilliant and always had your hussle on for better and greater things. I Have not seen you in years. Then I heard of your passing. Rest in peace, and peace be with you, Mercedes.
