Jerome Leonard Carter's Obituary
Jerome Leonard Carter was born August 10, 1963, in Oakland, California, to Andrew and Pearl Carter. He was the youngest of five children and was deeply loved by his family.
Jerome attended Whitton School in Oakland, where he formed close and lasting friendships with Donell and Verna Randolph, Willie and Melissa Stewart. Through these friendships, Jerome became deeply involved in his love of music. Along with his friends, he was a member of the gospel group Simply Unique, through which he shared a lifelong passion for gospel music that remained central to his life. He performed gospel music in multiple venues throughout the Bay Area. Jerome loved to sing, and his soprano voice often filled the home with comfort and joy.
In addition to gospel music, Jerome had a deep love for R&B, building a meaningful music collection that reflected his appreciation for soulful sound and expression.
Jerome graduated from Skyline High School in 1984. He later attended Creative growth Art Center, where his artistic talents flourished. He expressed himself through painting landscapes and creating sculptures, many of which were exhibited and sold through Creative growth. His artwork was also featured in the Oakland Tribune, recognizing his creativity and artistic voice.
Jerome worshipped with his family at Saint Columba Church and shared fellowship through Stars of Joy Baptist Church. Faith and music were central to his spiritual life.
He will also be fondly remembered for his pride in Raider Nation, proudly reflected in his room décor and wardrobe.
Jerome is lovingly remembered by his brothers Genero (Doris) Carter, Carlo (Bridget) Carter, and Mark (Cassandra) Carter; his sister Elizabeth Carter; nine nieces and nephews. A special acknowledgement to his loyal childhood friend, Donell Randolph and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
