Janice Morrow Sorensen's Obituary
Janice Morrow Sorensen, 97, died on July 27, 2006 inMillbrae, California . She was the daughter of William J. Morrow and Eunice Marr Morrow, who met immediately following the 1906 earthquake in SanFrancisco . Janice was born inOakland, California on June 1, 1909. She attended school in Berkeley, Oakland, and inDunsmuir, California . She graduated fromUniversityHigh School in Berkeley andArmstrongBusinessCollege in Oakland.Following graduation, Janice worked as a legal secretary for many years. She was very proud of her education and career.While on a cruise to Alaska in 1930, Janice met her future husband, Thorwald 'Tom' Sorensen, and they were married in November 1932 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oakland . They lived in Alameda, and then moved to Berkeley and then Oakland after their two daughters were born. Janice served as PTA president atThousand OaksSchool andClaremontJunior High School . She was also active in the Order of Eastern Star. The family moved to SanFrancisco in 1948 and to Millbrae in 1956. Janice and Tom retired toKernCity in the Bakersfield area in 1963 where they lived for 10 years. Following her husband's death in 1973, Janice returned to Millbrae and became active in the Over Forty Club, Millbrae Choraliers, Newcomers Club, and the Millbrae Historical Society. She also served as secretary/treasurer for the AARP chapter in Millbrae for many years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in San Bruno . She lived her life with great humor and had many friends.She is survived by daughters Joan Greene of Danville and Marilyn Snyder of Millbrae ; grandchildren Susan Hayes (Bob), Greg Nordstrom, Linda Watkins (Dave), Jeff Becker (Heidi), Janet Becker, Jerry Becker (Wendy), and step-granddaughters Linda Ghio and Robin Greene. She had 12 great-grandchildren: Justin, Zachary, Brad, Sean , Anja, Rachel, Lauren, Monica, Melissa, Nicholas, Lindsey and Bryan. She is also survived by her son-in-law Bob Sparks, nephews Mark Haslam of Michigan, Bruce Morrow and niece Donna Haslam of the Bay Area, along with several nephews & nieces in the Sacramento area. She was preceded in death by her siblings Helen Haslam and William Morrow, and sons-in-law Lindsey Greene and Richard Snyder.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1600 Santa Lucia Avenue, San Bruno. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions to Sutter Hospice of San Mateo, American Cancer Society orSt. AndrewsChurch . Private inurnment will follow at Chapel of the Chimes inPiedmont .
