Janet Chan Lee's Obituary
11/19/12 marks the passing of a 'great lady' in every sense of the term. A pioneer in her profession, a patron and donor of many medical and service organizations, balanced by her role as wife and mother. She was in the forefront as a Chinese American woman in a time when men dominated her chosen profession. Graduating at the top of her class at UCSF Medical School thanks to her abilities and the support of her father, she dedicated her life to providing affordable and compassionate care to women and children. Her contributions as a doctor serving the community were recognized in a larger sphere when the directory 'Who's Who in America' asked her to be included in their listings. She embodied the concept of being on call as a doctor 24/7. The arrival of babies was not confined t office hours, and there were many dawns that saw her returning home to snatch a few hours' sleep before returning to the hospital for her rounds and then her office hours. The state of Calif. is populated with children she delivered, many of whose parents honored her by naming their children after her. After 43 years of practice, she spent her well-earned retirement surrounded by family and friends. When her medical condition worsened, she bore it with the same fortitude and determination that she had counseled her patients to use.Valued by her medical colleagues and with the gratitude of her many patients, this 'great lady', Janet Chan Lee, M.D. , and her achievements will be honored on 11/29 at 11:00 at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, CA. Donations may be made in her name to UCSF medical school so that her legacy to us all may continue.'Say not in grief 'she is no more' but live in thankfulness that she was.'
