James Albert Watson's Obituary
Mr. James Albert Watson (Hippie), age 85, died early Tuesday morning at the Veterans
(VA) Hospital in Martinez, California on July 19, 2016.
James was born June 7, 1931, in McKamie, Arkansas. He was the second son born to his
parents; Charley and Myrtle Watson. The family moved to Oakland, California in 1945, where
James completed his high school education through the Oakland Unified School System. After
graduation from McClymonds High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.
James was employed with Continental Can Company for many years. He also worked
for Cypress Security Company until his illness in 2014. James was an avid fan of the Golden
State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders. He enjoyed cheering for his teams with friends at his
favorite neighborhood taverns. He was a fun-loving and festive person. He loved to listen to jazz
and dance to good finger “poppin” soulful music after eating his favorite dish (four hook beans)
prepared by his dear friend, Willie June and lobster and tri-tips by Jerica.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Willie June; brother, Charles; two sister’s inlaw,
Marilyn and Shirley, and three very good friends, Willie C. Adam (Chief) and Lois; many
nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
