James Goldsby's Obituary
James Goldsby, age 96, of Oakland, California passed away September 8, 2019. He was born in Oak Ridge, Louisiana on April 25, 1923 (AUD) February 15, 1925 to parents Paul and Cindy Goldsby who preceded him in death. All of his eight siblings proceeded him in death – Charlie, Norlan Clarence (NC), Elessie Goldsby Sims, Thornton, Ernest King (EK), Arthur, Frank, and Virgie Sue Goldsby Hammond. One daughter, Veronica Goldsby, also preceded him in death.
James received an Associate Degree from Laney College in Oakland, CA. He was married to Mary N. Goldsby on November 21, 1991.
James Goldsby joined the Armed Forces of the US (Army) at the age of seventeen and served in World War II, The Korean War and The Vietnam War. He enjoyed serving as a ‘Tagalog language translator’ while stationed in the Philippines. Upon his retirement of 30 years from the military, he had a career with the Department of Corrections (Juvenile Hall) serving as a supervisor. James had a passion for home building, electronics and automotive maintenance.
He is survived by his three daughters: Helen Alexander-Jones (James Jones), Gabrielle Goldsby ( Meredith Olson), Mary A. Goldsby, one son Jimmy Smith. Grandchildren are: Lynette Alexander, Georgette Alexander, Nyjay Maddox, Amier Adams, Malai Adams, Keshia Ward Goldsby, Ahmad Collins, and Bruce Collins. Also, left to mourn his death are 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
