James Wellington Gilliam's Obituary
James was born on September 1, 1946 in Port Arthur, TX. James and his sisters came to the San Francisco Bay Area, CA in October 1949. He graduated from Mission High school in 1964. He enjoyed singing, dancing, and song writing. He also liked taking weekend trips to Reno, NV with friends and family.
James met Karen Thompson and from this union was born one daughter. Later, he met and married Sharon Hawley and from this union was born two sons.
James retired from California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, CA on April 30, 2015. He was a strong and active member of Local 250/ UHW union.
James was survived by ex- wife and good friend, Sharon Hawley. Daughter, Kimberly Winchester. Sons, Jason and Anthony Gilliam. Sisters, Valerie Dalton and Josie Abrams. Grandchildren, John Henderson, Ashley Cato, Amber Cato, Jason Gilliam Jr, Destiny Cato, and Dexter Cato Jr. Great-grandchildren, Aniayah and Aaron Mayfield.
James “Dr JG” Wellington Gilliam departed this life at the age of 73 in Oakland, CA, on November 10, 2019 and was preceded in death by parents, Vollie Jr and Orelia Gilliam. Sisters, Mary Alice Hampton and Frances “Dee” Hill-Howard and daughter Christina Cato.
