Jahirah Angel Battle's Obituary
“Precious jewel, you glowed, you shone, reflecting all the good things in the world.” - Maya Angelou
Jahirah Angel Battle, lovingly called “Ja”, “Ja Ja”, and/or “Hirah” by family, was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, niece, and friend, who passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2023 at the age of 16.
Jahirah was born in Miami, Florida on September 18, 2006 to her mother Tiffani Battle. When Jahirah was two, she moved with her mother to California, which became her new home. At the age of three, she was introduced to Cliff Berry, who married Tiffani in 2012, and raised Jahirah as his own child. After nine years as an only child, Jahirah’s brother Zion Berry was born in 2015.
Studious and intelligent, Jahirah was a Montessori student from preschool through 5th grade. Throughout her life, Jahirah engaged in many extracurricular activities. From kindergarten through eighth grade, Jahirah was a Girl Scout. In middle school, she developed a love for basketball, and played for two years on her school’s team. As a basketball player, Jahirah was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP), and helped her team win back to back championships. In addition, Jahirah had recently started dancing at Destiny Arts Center.
Jahirah was a beautiful and empathetic soul. She had a natural love and respect for all life, including animals and plant life. Her kindness, warm spirit, consideration, and thoughtfulness were just a few of her endearing qualities. Jahirah was a very spiritual and grounded teenager, who enjoyed yoga, tarot cards, manifestations, astrology, and was exploring the principles of Buddhism. Her favorite quote was, “For the good of all and the harm of none.”
Jahirah was blessed with a creative mind as a talented artist, dancer, and singer. Her creativity fed into her fashionable sense of style, as she pieced together daily looks that only she could pull off. Jahirah was also an avid reader, and loved watching movies and shows with her mom and brother. She was extremely loyal, as evidenced by her lifelong friendships. Jahirah was also very family-oriented and enjoyed a close bond with her brother Zion, and cousins Charles (JuJu), Reah, and Sage.
While Jahirah only graced us with her presence for 16 short years, she left a lasting impact and impression on everyone who got the chance to meet her, from preschool teachers to friends to family members.
Jahirah leaves to cherish her memory the following: her loving parents Tiffani Battle and Cliff Berry, her brother Zion Berry, her bonus mother Lashonda Berry, her grandparents Glen and Brenda Battle, her aunt Laurin Stamps (Michael Kelly), her uncles Kris Battle (Latanyia Battle) and Noah Battle, as well as a host of wonderful cousins, great aunts, great uncles, and friends.
