Isreal Elsworth Tyler, aka Rocky, was born on April 21, 1942, to the parents of the late Reverend Melvin Tyler Sr. (Sunset 1990) and Louise Bradley Tyler (Sunset 1963) in Twin Oaks, Pennsylvania.
Isreal went home to be with The Lord, on Friday, August 9, 2024, while a patient at Kaiser Hospital, Modesto, CA.
He was the youngest son of fifteen children.
Hazelene “Hazel” Barksdale (Sunset 1987), Alonzo C. Tyler, Sr. (Sunset1990), Malachi Cunningham, (Sunset 1997), McKinley W. Tyler, Sr. (Sunset 1998), Lonnie I. Tyler, Sr. (Sunset 2000), Melvin Tyler, Jr. (Sunset 2000), William “Bill” Tyler (Sunset 2000), Louise Tyler Bishop (Sunset 2007), Amy Jean Tyler Campbell (Sunset 2016), and Doris D. Tyler Peterson (Sunset 2021).
Living siblings are brothers, Samuel S. Tyler (Dolores), Harry “Butchie” Tyler, Sr., and sisters Zelma Harper (Sherman) and Charlotte Queen.
Isreal attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church, in Linwood, Pennsylvania, as a child and where his father was Pastor.
He attended Schools in Chichester before enlisting in the United States Navy.
He was a proud veteran. He moved to California in the early 1980’ s.
Rocky was employed at Villa Fairmont Mental Rehabilitation Center, in San Leandro, California for over 20 years. He rose in rank from Maintenance worker to Director of Facilities Services, over that time.
He married his wife of 37 years Pamela Anita Bradley Nichols, on April 4, 1987.
He has three daughters from a previous marriage, Tyanne McNeal (Kelisa, Aja, Amani, and Devon), Lisa Ann Tyler, (Amaya, Tisa, and Cailee) and Kelly Tyler Webster (Scott), Kayla Elizabeth Miner and Symone Elyse Webster).
His adopted daughter, Nicole Nichols Robertson (Damon) and their children Brittany Laura Johnson, Damon Jr., and Eric).
He has twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Rocky loved listening to Old School gospel, jazz, and blues.
He was known for his phrase, Sunshine, blue skies.”
Rocky never met a stranger.
He leaves behind a host of family and friends.
