Ira Leo Fair's Obituary
Ira Leo Fair was born on February 1, 1948, in Weed, California, to Edna Mae Fair-Owens and Joseph Franklin Fair.
A gifted athlete from an early age, Ira shined at Weed High School, where he was named MVP of the football team.
His drive and love for sports continued at Chico State University, where he discovered a lifelong passion for golf. Ira made history as the first African American member of the Chico State golf team, an accomplishment that reflected both his talent and trailblazing spirit.
Ira earned his PGA teaching card and went on to share his love of the game with countless students. He coached many notable athletes and performers throughout his career and became a beloved golf instructor at the Metropolitan Golf Links. Among his greatest joys was working with the Junior Golf program, inspiring young players with his patience, humor, and heart.
Golf was more than a pastime for Ira, it was a way of life. His home reflected that love, complete with a mini putting green and driving range in his backyard, where he spent countless happy hours with friends and family.
Beyond golf, Ira was a charismatic and entrepreneurial man. He proudly owned and operated Fair Enterprises Delivery Service for over 20 years alongside his former wife, Susan Fair. His magnetic personality, quick wit, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Ira is lovingly remembered by his siblings,Paul, Larry, Michael, Sabrina, and Percy. He will be deeply missed by his children, Jamal, Tenisha, Tracy, and Tiffany. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the many condolences, stories, and colorful memories shared in his honor. Ira was truly one of a kind, charming, passionate, and full of life. His legacy will live on in every laugh, every swing, and every heart he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
