Inez W. Gray Harvey's Obituary
Inez W. Gray Harvey was born May 28th 1915 in Oakland, Ca. She moved to St. Paul MN at age 5 and returned to Oakland at age 12.
She attended Herbert Hoover Jr. High and graduated from McClymonds High in 1933. Ms. Gray was accepted to attend Howard University. Due to family illness, she was forced to forgo her education and seek employment.
Inez met and married Milton Earl Harvey in 1940 and married shortly their after August, 1941.
Inez was one of the first Blacks to work for the State of California, Department of Motor Vehicles, a career which spanned 35 years. During her tenure at the Department she authored legislation for rules of the road, which is law today.
She has been a tireless worker for the Beth Eden Baptist Church and the Oakland community in general.
Inez was an honored guest at McClymonds Centennial celebration in 2015 as the oldest living graduate.
Inez is survived by her three children: Marietta, John and Lawrence; three grand- children : Jeanine Briana, Lawrence; five great grand- children: Nina, Anthony, Jessica, Elysia, Lawrence III ; two great-great grand-children : Justin, Nessell .
