Hoover Kwock Chew
Hoover peacefully passed away at 92 years of age on August 24, 2021 in San Lorenzo, California.
He was born December 21, 1928 in Oakland, California.
Hoover was the beloved husband and best friend to his one and only love of 68 years, Margaret.
He was the best father to his three children; Russell, Sharon and Gale.
He was a doting grandfather to his only grandchild, Hannah Grace.
Hoover was a lifelong resident of Oakland, California and a graduate of Oakland Technical High School.
He was a Korean war veteran, having served in the United States Air Force.
He owned and operated Grove Market on Park Boulevard in Oakland, California, for 41 years along with Margaret.
He became a local institution and was loved by his community.
Hoover retired to San Leandro, California and began to enjoy travel with Margaret. Their travels took them to destinations around the world, including Asia, Europe, Australia, Mexico, as well as numerous national parks and local areas.
Hoover is preceded in death by his father Hing Hon Chew, mother Lum Shee Chew, sister Ella Chew and brother Calvin Chew.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Chew, son Russell Chew (Mari Symon Chew), granddaughter Hannah Grace Chew, daughters Sharon Chew and Gale Chew-Yep (Jerry Yep), brothers Hanford and Henry Chew, sisters Doris Loo and Nancy Chang.
