Herbert W. Chan's Obituary
On the evening of April 5, 2023, Herbert Wai-Fung Chan passed away peacefully while accompanied by family in Oakland, CA. Herbert was 73 years old.
He was born in the Guangdong province in China on October 28th, 1949 to Nun-Fai Chan and Kwai-Fun Deng but spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In April 1975, he married Eunice, and together they raised two children, Ambrose and Anna. Herbert traveled the world working as a purchasing representative in the family confectionary business.
He found happiness in seeing his loved ones and friends thrive, had passion for fishing, classical music, mah-jong, Chinese history and poetry, and will be missed for his generous and kind nature.
He is survived by his wife and children, his granddaughters Emiko, Miya, and Hana, his siblings Wai-Wah, Wai-Ming, Anthony, Wilson, Hiroshi, Koji, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, the family suggests donations be made in Herbert’s name to KQED or the Bay Area Music Project in Alameda.
