HENRY MORTON SPRINGER, JR.
Henry Morton Springer, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on May 22, 2013 in Saratoga. He was 96. Morton was born on November 23, 1916 in Oroville, CA, the only child to H. Morton and Rose G. Springer. He graduated from Alameda High School in 1932, and worked for Del Monte Corporation until his retirement in 1976.
He was a member of Island City Lodge #215, Oakland Scottish Rite, Aahmes Temple of the Shrine and Oakland Court #6 Royal Order of the Jesters, as well as Past President of the Alameda Shrine Club, Past President of the Rossmoor Shrine Club, Past Big Sir, Alameda Branch #30 SIRS.
Mort enjoyed participating in lodge events, travelling, crossword puzzles, current events, and was an avid reader, focusing on history and politics.
He is survived by his children: Marty Springer (Keldyn), of Redwood City, Trey Springer of Chesterfield, MO, and Susan Cooke of Saratoga. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Richard Fields (Christine), Niklaus Kish, and Greg Springer; and his great-grandchildren: Lindsey, Lauren, Libby, Violet, and Marielle Fields.
He married the late Phyllis (Sonntag) Springer in 1992, where they lived in Walnut Creek for 15 years before relocating to San Jose. Prior to Phyllis, he was married to the late Mary Lou (Felder) Springer (1948 ' 1991).
