Memories of Henrietta BraggI met Henri when I as 24 years of age. She was one of the most beautiful black women that I had ever met. She carried herself regally, yes, like a queen. She was always put together, and she had grace and authority. She was then the secretary of our Safeguards and Security Department. I was a new career intelligence intern. To me, she knew everything about the office. My respect for secretaries went up because of her. She was my mentor, even though I did not even know the word back then. She gave me advise on how to put a little money, on the side, how to buy quality pieces of clothing on sale, and how to conduct myself in the office. I always thanked God for putting a Mom away from home in my working environment. She always talked about her children, even her childrenâ??s father. She was always funny when telling these stories. She talked about her Mom and what she had instilled in her. She told me old stories about what Berkeley was like when she was young girl. This was in the 1940â??s. She said when the soldiers would come into port, there was an announcement which said, â??Mothers, get your daughters, because the ships are coming in!â? She talked about Mona, Jerry and Lori, and I felt like I knew them. Back then she talked about her granddaughter Kasia, whom she was very proud. Henri will always have a special part in my life, because when I needed her, she was there for me. I will remember her smile and her encouraging me by saying, â??Kid you got this.â? I am now 61 years of age, I pray that family of Henrietta Bragg be blessed and encouraged, because she has left a rich legacy to her children, grandchildren, and great grands. The Bible says in Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.â? God Bless and Keep You All! Virginia Reams
