We met Heidi as one of the three musically talented and always smiling kids of the Garrish family who we met when we moved in across from their family home. Heidi and her siblings were entering different parts of their young adult lives, but always happy to wave to my young sons, and wish them a great day. She babysat my boys once sharing her love for roller skating, playing music with her siblings, and hiking with her family in stories with us. We love our kind and generous neighbors, and are heartbroken for their loss of Heidi.

Heidi was always a role model to me and I clearly remember wanting to grow up to be just like her. She brought music into my family by inspiring my sister and I to join band. Her work even inspired me to work with refugees myself. Knowing Heidi made me want to be more brave in life and to be a light for others. Any time I think of her now, I'm reminded that it's possible to bring a spark of joy to anyone around you, and I'll always be changed and strengthened for having known her. Sending much love.
